Embracing a New Workplace Culture
Working in another country offers unique opportunities to experience different workplace cultures and, for Miki Tan, a Senior from Assurance, her secondment in Adelaide in 2024 was a journey of discovery.
Miki found that this experience provided her with a refreshing perspective and a chance to explore new ways of managing work and personal time.
Adapting to Local Routines
Another interesting aspect of her experience was adjusting to the local shopping hours. While Adelaide’s early shop closing times were initially a challenge, Miki found it to be an opportunity to plan her days more efficiently. This adjustment not only helped her manage her time better but also gave her a deeper understanding of the local lifestyle.
The Key Takeaway: Personal Time Boosts Productivity!
Miki’s biggest lesson from this experience was that quality personal time comes hand in hand with improving workplace productivity.
Back in Singapore, Miki has been inspired to incorporate some of these insights into her daily life by finding ways to blend productivity with a little more personal time. It’s all about finding the perfect balance between getting things done and enjoying the moments that matter!

Exploring New Places
Beyond work, Miki made the most of her time in Australia. She spent quality time with colleagues at Pitcher Partners Adelaide and even took a short trip to Melbourne to reconnect with a friend from school. Together, they explored the city, indulged in delicious food, and ticked off classic sightseeing spots—just like any enthusiastic tourist would!
Nature, Wildlife, and the Perfect Escape
Miki’s favourite part of Australia was its breathtaking national and conservation parks, where she had close encounters with native wildlife, including kangaroos, wallabies, kookaburras, and even koalas!

The place where she felt most at peace was the beach. “It was truly the highlight of my time there!” she shared.
