Baker Tilly Implements Leadership Renewal and New Tax Service Strategy

Singapore, 1 April 2020 – Baker Tilly’s leadership recognises the importance of long-term growth in a fast-changing and increasingly complex global economy. Building on the firm’s commitment to deepening and broadening its expertise to address its clientele’s evolving needs, in line with this recognition and commitment, the firm announced the following appointments:

  • Loh Eng Kiat today takes on the role of Tax Practice Leader, with overall responsibility for the executive management and market outreach of the firm’s Tax Practice. Eng Kiat succeeds Boey Yoke Ping, who had helmed the Tax Practice since 2006.

  • Yoke Ping will focus on International Tax – to drive strategic regional and international collaboration with network firms and promote greater inter-regional service integration to provide synergistic value-add to clients. She will also continue to serve as a member of the Baker Tilly International Asia Pacific Tax Committee.

The firm would like to express its gratitude to Yoke Ping who had successfully led the Tax Practice through key milestones, from growing its client base to adding new tax service offerings such as Goods and Services Tax (GST) advisory, Transfer Pricing Documentation and tax due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.

More about Eng Kiat

As a senior international tax advisor with extensive Big 4 experience in strategic engagements involving the integration of tax and global operating models, coupled with the strong recognition in the market of his versatility within the field, Eng Kiat has been a key figure in the continued success of the firm’s Tax Practice. He is well-positioned to bring Baker Tilly’s Tax Practice to the next level – one that offers the depth and breadth of tax expertise and solutions – across geographies and across a spectrum of taxes, in alignment with substance-based planning and adapted for the firm’s clients’ fast-evolving international tax needs.

Joshua Ong, Managing Partner for Baker Tilly, says,

“Competing in a rapidly evolving business climate in the world today spurs us to be future-ready and staying agile in a highly disruptive business landscape. With the new strategic appointments, we are confident that the firm’s Tax Practice will continue to evolve to meet our clients’ changing needs with Eng Kiat leading the charge towards growth in an evolving business environment. I would also like to express my appreciation to Yoke Ping for nurturing this remarkable team, setting the foundations for our future growth and continuing to expand the firm’s role on the international stage.”

Commenting on his new appointment, Loh Eng Kiat, Partner & Tax Practice Leader for Baker Tilly, says,

“In a world of increasing unknowns, the pace of disruption to tax services was already unprecedented over the last decade, with the G20-endorsed programmes continuously seeking to modify international tax rules and concepts. I am however confident that with the strong support of my fellow partners, we will maintain our resilience and emerge strongly as a Tax Practice of choice – this is evident in our admission of Yvonne Chua in 2019 as GST Partner, and to have Yoke Ping continue with an increased focus in the area of international tax to drive network collaboration. I envisage a Tax Practice that is fit for the future - one that is swiftly attuned to market needs, deeply multi-disciplinary and able to sharpen our positioning in the broader service delivery often encapsulating international tax needs.”

Boey Yoke Ping, Senior Partner, International Tax for Baker Tilly, says:

I am confident Eng Kiat will manage the firm’s ever-growing Tax Practice with great success.  This will enable me to devote more time to the area of international collaboration in client service offerings.”
